It Pays To Work Smart
The owner of an upscale fashion boutique was suffering a persistent problem. The fine wood floor squeaked and was quite irritating when entertaining customers. No matter what she tried, nothing worked. Finally, she called a carpenter who a customer said was a true craftsman.
The craftsman walked into the shop and heard the squeak. He set down his toolbox, pulled out a hammer and nail, and pounded the nail into the floor with three smart blows.
The squeak was gone forever. Beaming at his work, the carpenter said it would cost the owner P300. The boutique owner was appalled, but before she could say a word the carpenter pulled an invoice slip. Above the total were two line items:
Knowing where to hammer P298.00
Don’t charge by the hour, charge for knowing.
